“JOining HAnds for a BEtter TOmorrow”
This is the ministry of our good friends, Martin and Ruth Shikuku. As seen on our Projects page, ReACT has come behind the Shikuku’s by supporting the extra OVC’s in their home as well as encouraging them in their small business ventures. Over time, this household has grown so much that their present home is no longer adequete. Presently there are up to 36 children living in a home more suited for a maximum of 10, but this is about to change.
We are excited to announce that in the summer of 2010, 4 teams of 15-20 people will be visiting Kenya over July and August to build them a new home. You are invited to play a part either by joining a team or by helping us raise funds for this project. All donations will receive a tax receipt if given in either the United States or Canada (see below for donation info).
Following are preliminary details for anyone considering joining a team…
WHEN – Four, two week teams are available to join as follows:
Team 1 – Thurs. June 24 – Fri. July 9, 2010
Team 2 – Thurs. July 8 – Fri. July 23, 2010
Team 3 – Thurs. July 22 – Fri. August 6, 2010
Team 4 – Thurs. August 5 – Fri. August 20, 2010.
WHERE – Kitale, Kenya
ACCOMODATIONS – Teams will be staying on a private, 1 acre compound and travel to the build site each day. Breakfast and Dinner are provided on the compound while lunches will be packed for the day. Electricity and water is usually available for evening use. Accomodations are hosted by the “Transformed International” team. (see www.transformedinternational.org )
COST – TBA…Cost will include all accomodations, air travel from Rochester, NY to Kitale, Kenya
WHAT TO BRING – A list will be provided as the teams are confirmed months before departure.
HEALTH DETAILS - Details to follow soon…
VISA REQUIREMENTS - Passports must be valid for a period of 3 months from the time of departure. Visas should be obtained in advance through your local Kenyan Consolate.
